Profile
Leongatha is located 130 km south east of Melbourne in the heart of rich, green and closely settled dairy, beef, lamb, vegetable and wine growing district. Situated at the crossroads of the South Gippsland Highway and the Strzelecki Highway, right in the centre of South Gippsland, Leongatha has become the national regional centre for a district of some 25,000 people with nationwide businesses such as McDonalds Family Restaurants, KFC, Fosseys, Safeway and Mitre 10. Key economic features include one of Australia's largest milk processing plants and an education sector which employs upwards of 200 people. Operated by Murray Goulburn, the towns modern milk plant employs around 400 people.
