Profile
Nestled amid the rich green pastures of the Western District and fringed by the Otway forests, Colac is only 160 km south-west of Melbourne, supporting many stable industries including dairying, timber and tourism. Dairying stands out as the life blood of the district with around 1,500 local farmers securing their livelihood directly from the industry. Bonlac has two factories servicing the local and overseas markets and Regal Cream has a factory supplying products nationally. The neighbouring Otway forests have also provided Colac with a strong timber industry which supports several sawmilling and wood chipping enterprises as well as the TreeCorp pine plantation and Blue Gum seedling farms.
