St Arnaud is the largest town (population 2,800) and the natural centre of a progressive agricultural district in north west and central Victoria. A diversitry of primary production from the traditional grain and wool, to ostrich, emu, and intensive pig and poultry farming is now solidly backed by secondary "value added" industries. Many of these industries are in demand nationally and overseas. Amalgamation into the Shire of Northern Grampians, as the northern half of a large and viable Shire has provided resources for economic development and the potential for an exciting future.
Primary circulation includes Avoca, Bealiba, Charlton, Dunolly, Inglewood, Marnoo, Moonambel, Navarre, St Arnaud, Wedderburn and Wycheproof.
