Foster sits at the gateway to Wilsons Promontory National Park and is the main shopping centre in the area. The region from Foster through Toora and on to Welshpool and Port Welshpool is home to a large fishing fleet. The tourist industry is also prominent, with local beaches and nearby mountain ranges offering visitors a diverse range of recreational activities. Dairy, cattle and sheep production are the main rural activities and the area benefits from being one of the highest rainfall areas in Victoria.
The Foster Mirror is circulated throughout the South Gippsland and Wellington Shires, including Fish Creek, Foster, Toora and Welshpool.
