Kerang situated 270 km from Melbourne at the junction of the Murray Valley and Loddon Valley Highways, is a prosperous service centre for a regional population of 18,000. The town is the largest in the Shire of Gannawarra. Kerang is the hub of the Torrumbary Irrigation District and has one of the most consistent sheep and cattle markets in the state. The Gunbower state forest not only supports a large redgum sawmilling industry but also is a popular tourist location. The extensive lakes district also attracts thousands of tourists annually.
